Not everyone was a Yankees fan. How they couldn’t love those guys is beyond me. I still can’t stand the smell of bubble gum even after all these years but withstood the sweet stench back then in the anticipation of coming up with “The Mick’s” card. Of course we had no clue of the back stage issues he and Roger Maris suffered but it was 1961 and the press was interested in news not scandal. Box scores didn’t list the booze or pills they slugged down after slugging homers. Eventually, Roger went to St. Louis and Moose went to Baltimore but for that summer they were ours, the 1961 World Champion New York Yankees.
Oh, and mom threw out the cards.

Tell me you’re kidding about the cards…

I had all the infield and outfield but I don’t remember how many pitchers. I had a lot of Pirates and Indians too.

Both the Pirates and Indians had a lot of fans in the town. But it was always the boys from NY for our gang.
